This short video summarizes requirements of EPA’s Lead-Based Paint Renovation, Repair and Painting Program Rule, aimed at protecting against lead-based paint hazards associated with renovation, repair and painting activities. The rule requires workers to be trained to use lead-safe work practices and requires renovation firms to be EPA-ertified; these requirements will become effective April 22, 2010.

Public Health Emergency in Libby, MT
June 17, 2009

EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson announced the agency has determined that a public health emergency exists at the Libby asbestos site in northwest Montana. Over the past years, hundreds of asbestos-related disease cases have been documented in this small community, which covers the towns of Libby and Troy. The announcement was made June 17, 2009, at a joint press conference with Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and U.S. Senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester.

Radon gas at dangerous levels found in granite countertops
